My Husband Left Me Nothing in His Will After 69 Years—Then His Lawyer Revealed What He Had Hidden From Our Children
PART 1 — THE BROWN JACKET
The brass button on Walter’s brown jacket was lying in the middle of his bedside table, although I had left the jacket hanging on the chair the night before.
I picked up the button and set it beside his wedding ring.
Walter tapped two fingers against the arm of his chair.
“You are worrying about that button.”
“I am wondering how it got there.”
He looked at the chair, then at me.
“Bennett will meet with us soon.”
“Bennett who?”
“My lawyer.”
“I know who Bennett is.
Why will she be meeting with us?”
Walter tapped twice more.
“There is a reason for that.”
I folded the blanket at the foot of his bed.
He had started using the same chair every morning, with the brown jacket over the back and his shoes lined beneath it.
“What did you leave me, Walter?”
His eyes stayed on the window.
“Let me think about that.”
