Nobody Was Present
I waited fifty minutes.
The woman at the second window is called Benedetta Arceneaux and she is fifty-eight years old and has been a commissioned Arizona notary since 2004 and she has a laminated card taped to the inside of her window that says, in a sixteen-point font:
THE SIGNER MUST BE PRESENT. NO EXCEPTIONS. DO NOT ASK.
I put the folder on the counter and said I needed to understand something about a transaction that had not happened, and that the owner of the vehicle was my daughter, and that she was twenty years old and had been discharged from a hospital on Saturday.
She listened for about ninety seconds.
