Evelyn looked down at Daniel’s signature beneath the one-dollar valuation. “For the first time in our marriage, Daniel has put his opinion of me in writing.
I don’t intend to argue with him.”
What Daniel did not know was that two weeks earlier, while packing the attic, Evelyn had found a sealed envelope beneath a stack of his old tax files.
It was addressed to her. The postmark was twelve years old.
Inside was an invitation from the Halston Ridge Arts Institute offering her a fully funded six-month residency in Northern California. The letter congratulated her on being chosen from more than two thousand applicants.
