It wants the other person to suffer, specifically, personally, and it is never quite satisfied, because no amount of another’s suffering ever fills the hole the original wound left; that is why revenge tends to escalate and to poison the person seeking it.

Justice is not a hunger.

It is a correction.

It does not particularly want Wendy to suffer; it wants the world put back into a shape where a woman cannot strike a child and pay no price, where cruelty meets a cost, where the powerful do not get a permanent exemption from the rules the rest of us live under.

And the difference showed in how I felt watching the consequences arrive.
