Seven months after our divorce, I rushed into St. Jude’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital, still angry at my ex-wife, only to learn that she had just given birth to twin boys, and both of them were mine. Before the night was over, a nurse would place a brass key in my hand and tell me to use it before my own family arrived. And what was waiting for me beyond that was even more shocking.
“Don’t go to that property, Alexander!” he urged nervously.
“Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t,” I demanded.
“Because that estate isn’t empty anymore!” Marcus blurted out.
“Who’s on the property right now?” I demanded.
“I don’t know their names,” Marcus claimed nervously.
“Marcus!” I warned, my patience running out.
He dropped his voice to a hushed whisper.
“Your mother sent a private team to search the grounds late this afternoon,” he confessed.
