Seven months after our divorce, I rushed into St. Jude’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital, still angry at my ex-wife, only to learn that she had just given birth to twin boys, and both of them were mine. Before the night was over, a nurse would place a brass key in my hand and tell me to use it before my own family arrived. And what was waiting for me beyond that was even more shocking.
“Did you see the entrance, Marcus?” I repeated loudly.
“Yes, I saw it,” he finally admitted softly.
“And what was inside that room?” I demanded.
“Just old wooden shelves, some discarded boxes, and basic storage stuff,” Marcus claimed quickly.
Sylvia shook her head hard from her bed.
“He’s lying to you, Alexander,” Sylvia whispered softly.
I covered the microphone again and looked down at her.
“How can you be so sure he’s lying?” I asked her.
