Seven months after our divorce, I rushed into St. Jude’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital, still angry at my ex-wife, only to learn that she had just given birth to twin boys, and both of them were mine. Before the night was over, a nurse would place a brass key in my hand and tell me to use it before my own family arrived. And what was waiting for me beyond that was even more shocking.
“Behind the old run-down greenhouse on the east side of the property,” Marcus explained.
“The lock is badly rusted, but the original master key should still turn it.”
I reached into my coat pocket and felt the cool surface of the brass key.
Sylvia’s eyes followed the movement of my hand closely.
“Why are you suddenly offering me this information now, Marcus?” I asked suspiciously.
“Because your father doesn’t know I kept a copy of the original property access plan,” Marcus admitted softly.
“Where is that plan right now?” I demanded.
