Seven months after our divorce, I rushed into St. Jude’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital, still angry at my ex-wife, only to learn that she had just given birth to twin boys, and both of them were mine. Before the night was over, a nurse would place a brass key in my hand and tell me to use it before my own family arrived. And what was waiting for me beyond that was even more shocking.
“Then I’ll give him the disappointment of staying completely calm,” I said firmly.
Evelyn reached out and handed me the silver flash drive.
“Take this digital evidence straight to the chair of the board before the meeting begins,” she instructed sternly.
“Don’t give it to your father, and don’t give it to your mother.
Give it only to the board chair.”
“Margaret Lin is still the board chair, right?” I checked.
“Yes, Margaret Lin still holds that position,” Evelyn confirmed.
“She was one of your grandfather’s most trusted allies, and she has stubbornly resisted every attempt your father has made to push her into retirement.”
