Seven months after our divorce, I rushed into St. Jude’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital, still angry at my ex-wife, only to learn that she had just given birth to twin boys, and both of them were mine. Before the night was over, a nurse would place a brass key in my hand and tell me to use it before my own family arrived. And what was waiting for me beyond that was even more shocking.
“They’re being watched very closely in the nursery nook over there,” she said, pointing toward the corner.
“Julian is a little stronger than Oliver right now, but the doctor assured me they’re both stable.”
I stared at her in complete surprise.
“You’ve already named them?” I asked, feeling a strange sensation in my chest.
“They deserved real names the moment they came into the world,” she answered gently.
“What are their full names?” I asked softly.
A faint, beautiful smile touched her pale lips.
“Julian Bennett Montgomery and Oliver Bennett Montgomery,” she said proudly.
