Seven months after our divorce, I rushed into St. Jude’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital, still angry at my ex-wife, only to learn that she had just given birth to twin boys, and both of them were mine. Before the night was over, a nurse would place a brass key in my hand and tell me to use it before my own family arrived. And what was waiting for me beyond that was even more shocking.
“Why didn’t you secure them and take them with you?” I pressed.
“I couldn’t, because your father’s private security team showed up at the site,” she explained.
“Security guards?” I asked, frowning.
“Not armed guards, Alexander, but internal corporate compliance officers who controlled the security codes and building surveillance,” she clarified.
She saw the deep worry on my face and quickly added, “No one physically hurt me, but they made it very clear I was no longer allowed on the property.”
“Then how did those original files end up stored inside the trust?” I asked, confused.
