Seven months after our divorce, I rushed into St. Jude’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital, still angry at my ex-wife, only to learn that she had just given birth to twin boys, and both of them were mine. Before the night was over, a nurse would place a brass key in my hand and tell me to use it before my own family arrived. And what was waiting for me beyond that was even more shocking.
“I managed to photograph and copy everything I could before they escorted me out, and I immediately sent the physical originals to an attorney I trusted,” she explained.
“Which attorney did you send them to?” I asked.
“Evelyn Shaw,” Sylvia said, naming her directly.
I recognized the name immediately.
Evelyn Shaw had been my grandfather’s personal legal counsel for more than thirty years before retiring soon after my father took control of the corporation.
“Is Evelyn Shaw still practicing law?” I asked in surprise.
“She’s retired, but she still keeps her legal license,” Sylvia confirmed.
“Where is she right now?” I pressed.
