Seven months after our divorce, I rushed into St. Jude’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital, still angry at my ex-wife, only to learn that she had just given birth to twin boys, and both of them were mine. Before the night was over, a nurse would place a brass key in my hand and tell me to use it before my own family arrived. And what was waiting for me beyond that was even more shocking.
“She’s staying near the Laurel Street property,” Sylvia revealed.
I looked down at the brass key in my hand.
“Does Evelyn Shaw have the keys to the trust?” I asked.
“No, the trust lock itself is on the property,” Sylvia clarified.
“Then what exactly does Evelyn have?” I asked, wanting to know.
Sylvia’s face grew deeply sad as she looked at me.
“She has a personal letter your grandfather wrote to you shortly before he died,” she revealed softly.
I gripped the folded charter tightly in my hand.
