Responsible history does not need to invent a vanished race where the evidence shows deep Native ancestry.

In fact, exaggeration would weaken the most remarkable fact of all.

The continuity itself is the story.

A human being who lived at the edge of the Ice Age can still be understood as part of the ancestral history of Indigenous peoples living today.

That is more profound than any fabricated mystery.

The Tribe’s Victory Was Not A Rejection Of Science

The Spirit Cave dispute is sometimes presented as a battle in which Native religion opposed scientific inquiry.

That framing is too simple.

The tribe did not have to reject science in order to demand sovereignty.

It used legal procedures, participated in consultation, engaged with scientific evidence, challenged government interpretations, and ultimately allowed genetic testing under conditions that served the goal of repatriation.
