Saying that Anzick-1 belongs to a population ancestral to many or most modern Native Americans is not the same as saying that any specific person can trace their ancestry back through Anzick-1’s specific family line.

The genome also did not resolve the question of which specific route or routes the first Americans took to reach the continent, or exactly when those migrations occurred.

It confirmed that the ancestors of Native Americans came from a population genetically related to northeastern Asian populations — consistent with the Bering land bridge route — but it could not specify exactly when the migration happened or whether there was one founding event or multiple.

These questions require additional ancient genomes, additional archaeological evidence, and additional modeling, and they remain active areas of research.
