The most fundamental unanswered question is whether the Anzick burial was the burial of one person or two.

Some early analyses of the bone fragments suggested that the material might represent more than one individual — specifically, that some fragments might belong to an older adolescent or young adult rather than solely to the infant whose remains are most clearly identified.

If the burial contained the remains of two individuals — a young child and an older person, both buried together — the interpretation of the burial context would change significantly.

This question has not been definitively resolved.
