The cliffs are retreating.

The summit is being lowered.

The surrounding lowland terrain is also being eroded, though more rapidly.

The net effect of these differential erosion rates is that the tepui formations are gradually shrinking, and will eventually disappear entirely as the resistant sandstone is consumed by erosion.

This is not an immediate concern in any human timescale — the tepuis will persist for tens or hundreds of millions of years more.

But it is a reminder that the current state of Roraima is a moment in an ongoing process, not a permanent condition.
