The waterfalls that fall from the rim of the Roraima plateau are among the mountain’s most visually dramatic features, and they deserve more than a passing mention.

The constant rain on the summit plateau creates runoff that concentrates at the cliff edge and pours over in curtains of water that can extend for considerable distances before reaching the cliff base.

In high-rainfall periods — which on Roraima is most of the time — the waterfalls are continuous and substantial.

In the brief periods of relative dryness, some of the smaller falls diminish or disappear, but the major ones persist.

The most photographed of Roraima’s waterfalls falls from the cliff face at a point where the runoff from a substantial portion of the summit plateau concentrates.
