Were they from elite or high-status families?

Were they drawn from specific geographic locations?

The isotope data, in combination with the genetic data, begins to sketch a picture of where these children may have come from and how they lived before they came to be interred in the chultún.

Isotope analysis also has the potential, in contexts where sufficient local reference data exists, to identify whether individuals were local to the site or whether they were brought from elsewhere.

For the Chichén Itzá chultún, the local baseline data needed for fine-grained geographic sourcing may be less well-established than for some other archaeological contexts, but the general picture of dietary patterns is informative for understanding the social context of the burial.
