The Edwards Plateau is a large and incompletely surveyed landscape.

The sinkholes that dot its surface number in the thousands, and only a small fraction have been archaeologically investigated.

The pattern established by Bering Sinkhole — that some of these sinkholes served as burial sites for Archaic-period hunter-gatherers — may extend far more broadly than the current evidence can document.
