Chapter 6 — The Fourth Person

The room went silent as the notary slid the forged document into a protective sleeve. “This seal is from my office, but I never authorized this.”

An officer opened the side door, and a young clerk named Justin came in with his head down. My father went pale. Justin didn’t deny anything.

“They offered me fifteen thousand dollars and told me it was a private family arrangement,” he said.

Stephanie lunged at him. “You forged the documents!”

“You emailed me the identification files, and your father brought me the signature samples!” Justin fired back.

My mother began to weep into a tissue. “Devin, my sweet boy, don’t let them humiliate your family.”
