The First Name on the Filing
Judge Roberta Lawson took her seat shortly after nine and reviewed the files in front of her, then looked up at the empty chair at my table.
“Where is Mrs. O’Connell?”
Barrett checked his platinum watch and smiled at his legal team. “Loretta has never been especially concerned with other people’s schedules, Your Honor.”
Paige covered a small laugh with her hand.
Judge Lawson fixed a stern look on her. “Ms. Delancy, this is a formal hearing, not a private conversation. You’ll remain silent unless I address you.”
Paige’s smile vanished and she sat up straight.
