Part Forty-Two: What the Foundation Actually Is

My mother left four point one million dollars in a trust in 2019 and I want to describe honestly what that is and is not, because people hear the number and stop listening.

It is not an empire.

It throws off about a hundred and seventy-five thousand dollars a year, which I am careful with, and out of which the trust pays its own costs.

The foundation is me, a part-time administrator called Rosalind who works Tuesdays and Thursdays, my brother doing the legal work for nothing and complaining about it, and a board of five that meets four times a year in a room above a bakery in San Marcos.
