The door swung open. Helena Cross marched in, flanked by two imposing security contractors in dark suits, and right behind them — trembling but standing tall — was Paige Holloway.

Colton’s face drained of color. “Paige? What the hell are you doing here?”

Marcus took a step back, clutching his briefcase like a shield. “Who are you people? This is a private medical room!”

“I’m Helena Cross, legal counsel for Mrs. Loretta Hayes,” Helena announced, and slammed the navy folder onto the overbed table, right on top of Marcus’s fraudulent papers.

“And this is ninety thousand dollars of forged loan documents, fraudulent equipment leases, and evidence of wire fraud, all bearing my client’s forged signature — signatures Ms. Holloway is fully prepared to testify were executed by you, Colton.”

He scrambled back against the headboard, eyes darting. “Mom — she’s lying! She’s the bookkeeper! She embezzled the money! I was trying to protect you!”
