Anderson was attempting to secure the repatriation of Geronimo’s remains to Arizona, where the Chiricahua homeland is.

Anderson had obtained a document — a one-page account that he said described the Skull and Bones theft in specific detail — and a photograph that he said showed a skull in a glass case inside the Tomb.

These materials came to him through channels that he has not fully described, and the provenance of the document and photograph has been a persistent source of uncertainty in assessing the overall evidence.

Anderson contacted Yale and the Bush family and eventually arranged a meeting in Washington, D.C., or New York — accounts of the meeting’s location vary — with Jonathan Bush, the son of Prescott Bush, and other Skull and Bones representatives.
