It was not an excuse.
I want to be fair to her: there was not one sentence in it that asked me for anything.
It said that she had been twenty-four and that this explained nothing.
It said that she had told herself a story about a man in a failing marriage because the alternative was to look at what she was doing to a woman who had taught her to drive.
It said she thought about the coat.
