Part Four: Three Months of Tuesdays

It had started in February.

I know that because I am a person who keeps records, and because when I finally sat down with the bank statements on the Thursday morning, the pattern was visible from the doorway.

Tuesdays.

He had a standing thing on Tuesdays — a client dinner, he’d said, in Carlsbad, that had become a regular.

Home at nine-thirty or ten instead of six.

Two Saturdays a month, roughly, gone from noon until five or six.
