The Two Extra Seats
Part Twelve: My Mother-in-Law at My Sister’s Door
Gertrude arrived at Clara’s house on Monday afternoon at ten past four.
She had never once been to my sister’s house in thirteen years.
She had gotten the address, we later established, from Paige’s phone.
Clara opened the door and then stood in it, which is a thing my sister does.
“I’d like to speak to Hannah.”
I came out.
I want to record that I was not composed.
