They were gone inside ninety seconds.

Priya had the answer by two that afternoon: a report had been filed, eight days earlier, in the district covering Evelyn Sterling’s address, alleging theft of jewelry by a daughter-in-law.

It was assigned to a detective who had not yet contacted anybody.
