I was there as a witness and nothing else, and I was permitted to be in the room because Vanessa refused to do it otherwise.
She is forty-four now. She works in scheduling for a regional trucking company. She wore a cardigan and no jewelry and her hair was its own color, and it took me eleven seconds to be certain it was her.
The technical content took ninety minutes and it is not mine to write down. What matters is this:
Vanessa recorded Daniel Thorne for eleven months.
She turned over forty minutes of it in 2019. The forty minutes that saved her — Daniel spelling out the forgery, the routing numbers, the account structure.
She kept the rest.
