I did not forgive Garrett at that grave.
I want to be honest about it.
I did not fall into his arms, and I made no promise about the future, because forgiveness and reconciliation are enormous, complicated things, and I had not driven to Ohio to hand either one to him across a coffin.
What changed that morning was smaller than forgiveness, and more permanent.
