Wait for Me
My son had built his whole plan around the fact that he could not ask anyone for help.
I was about to prove that his mother, at least, finally could.
“Mrs.
Vantwell,” he said finally, leaning forward, “if this is what it looks like, your ex-husband is mixed up with dangerous people.
And your boy walked into the middle of something that powerful adults are working very hard to keep buried.” He said it plainly, not to frighten me, but because he had decided I deserved the truth.
It frightened me anyway, and it did not leave me, day or night.
