On the fourteenth of October, DCFS took protective custody of Esme Bellew.

That is an administrative act; it happens before any judge sees anything.

Within forty-eight hours of that, there is a hearing.

In Illinois it is called a temporary custody hearing and everybody in the building calls it shelter care.

It is held in the Juvenile Court on Hamilton Avenue, in a courtroom with no jury and about eleven people in it, and it took forty minutes.

The State is represented.
