“You ruined me,” Daniel breathed, staring at the empty doorway.

He looked back at me, his eyes filled with unhinged hatred. “You stupid, arrogant—”

He took a step toward me, raising his hand. He didn’t make it a full step before both security guards had him pinned against the wall, his arm twisted behind his back.

Daniel gasped, his cheek pressed to the floral wallpaper he and Vanessa had picked out.

“Careful, Mr. Carter,” Meyers said coldly. “Assaulting the owner of a property while you’re actively trespassing carries a mandatory minimum.”

Vanessa was hyperventilating, backing toward the stairs. “This isn’t my fault! He lied to me! He told me she was broke and that he was going to be a millionaire!”
