They grinned at me in the mirror, all four at once, delighted, as though I’d finally understood a joke.
“So have we,” the bold one said.
Chapter 4 — I’m Tobias
The bold one turned around and held out his hand to me, grave and formal, the way a small boy imitates the men he’s seen.
“I’m Tobias.
That’s Thaddeus, and Torin, and Tennison.
We’re quadruplets.” He said the word carefully, proudly, a big word he’d clearly practiced.
“There’s four of us.
We were born all at the same time.”
My mouth had gone completely dry.
I shook the small hand because I did not know what else to do with my body.
