Independence Day Favorite Pulled from Shelves Over ‘Probability of Death’ Warning

Just days before the 4th of July, a chilling food safety alert has shaken households across the country.

A beloved holiday BBQ staple is now at the center of a massive recall after federal officials warned it could carry a dangerous bacteria with a “reasonable probability of death.” Families gearing up for their celebrations may unknowingly have this product sitting in their refrigerators right now.

Kraft Heinz Foods Company, in coordination with the U.S. DepartOscar Mayer Turkey Bacon Recalled Due to Listeria Risk

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a recall for nearly 368,000 pounds of Oscar Mayer turkey bacon over concerns of possible listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The recall affects several varieties of Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon, including the 12-ounce Original pack, the 36-ounce (3-pack of 12-ounce) version, and the 48-ounce (4-pack of 12-ounce) Original package. The affected products were distributed across the United States, including major retailers like Target, and were also shipped internationally to Hong Kong and the British Virgin Islands.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause serious infections, particularly in pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. While listeria infections often cause mild symptoms like fever, headache, and diarrhea, the consequences can be far more severe in high-risk populations.

At this time, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products. However, consumers are advised to either dispose of the affected items or return them to the store for a refund.

A Reminder on Food Safety

This recall underscores the reality that even well-known brands are not exempt from food safety concerns. As families prepare for upcoming holidays and gatherings, it’s a timely reminder to inspect your refrigerator, take food recalls seriously, and follow official guidance. Staying informed and taking swift action is key when it comes to protecting your health and the health of those around you.
