I had delivered an old locket and been caught inside a truth that should have been discussed before the ceremony.
Still, I knew Ruth would be right about one thing.
I should not have stayed in the sanctuary after Lauren explicitly asked me not to attend.
My intention hadn’t been to force my way into the wedding.
But intentions did not erase how my presence affected the ceremony.
I would need to acknowledge that.
Just as Lauren would need to acknowledge what she’d done.
Repair could not belong entirely to one person.
When I reached home, Ruth was waiting in the kitchen.
There were two cups of tea.
A plastic container of wedding cake.
I stared.
“Where did you get that?”
“Someone had to rescue dessert.”
