She didn’t offer to change her mind.

“Maybe afterward we can all come here for dinner.”
I looked around the kitchen.
Old cabinets.
Worn linoleum.
The small blue coffee mug by the sink.
So the same house she apparently didn’t want discussed at her wedding would be acceptable once the important guests had gone home.
I didn’t say that.
Not yet.
“Perhaps,” I answered.
Lauren sighed.
