He gave a short, impatient breath.
“Then do your job and let us through.”
I pointed toward the marked lane.
“Everyone goes through the same verification.”
Arthur stepped closer.
His voice lowered.
His smile stayed in place for the people around us.
“Move aside, Kate.”
“I can’t do that.”
His hand closed around the sleeve of my uniform.
The fabric pulled tight above my elbow.
I looked down at his fingers.
Then at him.
“Arthur, let go of my sleeve.”
He did not.
Not immediately.
“Don’t make a scene.”
I placed my free hand over his fingers.
