I picked up my phone.
Called Julian.
He answered on the fourth ring.
“Clara?”
“Where did the $41,200 from the lake-lot sale go?”
A short silence.
“Business reimbursement.”
“For what?”
“An ordinary expense.”
“Which expense?”
He sighed.
“I’m in the middle of preparing for tomorrow.
I don’t have time to go through every line item.”
“You have time to tell me what you bought.”
“It was routine.”
“Then send me the receipt.”
“I’ll have accounting handle it.”
