I moved Julian’s name card.

Arthur frowned.
“You said you don’t want a spectacle.”
“I don’t.”
“Then why seat him there?”
“So he hears every answer.”
Arthur picked up the card.
“You understand that tonight ends the marriage.”
I looked at the empty place marked with Julian’s name.
“The marriage ended before tonight.”
Then I gave Arthur one instruction that mattered more than any other.
“Use only what protects Sterling.”
“Understood.”
“Nothing private because it is painful.”
He nodded.
