She looked at Julian.
He answered.
“Because she understands the room.”
“And I don’t?”
“You understand our home.”
The word our sat between us.
“That wasn’t my question.”
Julian checked his watch.
“Clara, please.”
Victoria lowered her hands.
“I can wait outside if you need to talk.”
“No,” Julian said.
“We’re done.”
I looked directly at her.
“Did he tell you I was supposed to stay home?”
Her eyes moved toward Julian.
“He said you weren’t attending.”
