Introduction

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G is a budget-friendly smartphone that doesn’t skimp on features. It has a 6.49-inch FHD+ display, Snapdragon 695G processor, 64MP triple rear camera setup, and a 4,500mAh battery.

Plus, it supports 5G connectivity. In terms of design, the OnePlus Nord N20 5G looks very similar to the OnePlus 8T. It has a curved glass back and a plastic frame. The fingerprint sensor is located on the back of the phone.

On the right side, you’ll find the power button and volume rocker while on the left side there’s just a SIM card tray. At first glance, I was disappointed that there’s no headphone jack – but the OnePlus includes an adapter in the box so you can use your wired headphones with this device. The bottom of the phone has one speaker and two USB Type-C ports (one for charging).

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G also comes with Android 11 out of the box with OxygenOS 11 installed over top. If you’re familiar with OnePlus devices, then you know how much bloatware they come preloaded with.

Fortunately, the OnePlus Nord N20 5G does not have any bloatware preinstalled at all which is really refreshing! Speaking of bloatware, every time you install a new app or game from Google Play Store, OnePlus will send an offer to remove that app from your device without any input from you whatsoever.

Thankfully though, these offers are easily ignored by swiping them away. Let’s dive into the full review of it.

Price

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G will cost you £247 in the UK, which is about $299/AU$429. For that money, you get a really great phone with a really nice design, a large and bright display, a very capable camera system, and very good performance.

Plus, you get 5G support as well. The only downside is that the battery life could be better. It also lacks water resistance. But if you’re looking for a phone on the lower end of the price spectrum, it’s hard to go wrong with this one.

We think it offers a lot of value for the price. OnePlus has done an excellent job at bringing all of these features together in an attractive package at a price point that is accessible to many people. And while there are tradeoffs (in our opinion), they are worth it considering what you’re getting for your money.

Design & Build Quality

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G is a budget-friendly phone that doesn’t sacrifice design or builds quality. The phone is made of plastic, but it feels solid and well-built. The back has a matte finish that’s fingerprint resistant.

The camera module protrudes slightly, but not enough to be annoying. The power button and volume rocker are both easy to reach and have a nice clicky feel. The bottom edge houses a USB-C port, speaker grille, and headphone jack.

Unlike some other phones, the OnePlus Nord N20 5G also has a separate SIM card slot under the tray for microSD cards. The single rear camera does lack OIS, which means low light and shots will be grainy and noisy.

Pictures are taken in broad daylight and come out sharp with good color accuracy. If you’re looking for an affordable Android phone that looks good without compromising on performance then this is the one for you!

Display Quality

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G sports a 6.43-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G has a 90Hz refresh rate and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The phone has an in-display fingerprint sensor for security. The UI experience on the OnePlus Nord N20 5G is really smooth and I didn’t face any lag while using it.

The device runs on the Android 11 operating system, but don’t expect to see many customizations from OnePlus. Overall, the OnePlus Nord N20 5G ticks all the right boxes when it comes to performance, design, battery life, and more importantly display quality.

With a price tag of $299, it is definitely worth considering if you are looking for a new smartphone under the $300 segment.

Performance & Specs

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G is a great mid-range phone. It has a Snapdragon 695G processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The screen is a 6.43-inch AMOLED with a resolution of 1080×2400.

The camera is a triple camera setup with a main 64MP sensor and a 16MP ultrawide sensor. The battery is 4,500mAh and supports Warp Charge 33W fast charging.

There are some things I don’t like about it, though. While its performance is good for what you pay, it still lags behind top-tier phones in terms of raw speed and multitasking.

Its camera is also disappointing compared to other flagships; while it takes clear pictures in good lighting, low light shots are blurry and noisy.

Fortunately, OnePlus has been very consistent in terms of software updates and promises an update to Android 11 by September 2019. It also supports 2×2 Wi-Fi ac with dual 5G VoLTE (Triple Play), which gives it a major advantage over other phones in its range.

For the most part, this is a speedy and reliable device that performs well as both your workhorse and your entertainment center. I had no issues with call quality or data speeds when using the OnePlus Nord N20 5G, but if you want a really high-performing phone then it may not be worth the price.

This phone is excellent for anyone who wants a sleek-looking design, fast internet connection, powerful features, and dependable specs without spending more than $400.

Software and OS

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G comes with Android 11 out of the box, and while it’s the latest version of Android, it’s still a very solid operating system. The software is smooth and snappy, and I didn’t experience any slowdown or lag during my time with the phone.

The user interface is clean and minimalistic, and I really like the dark mode. There are a few bugs here and there, but they’re not game-breaking bugs by any means.

They’re small things that most people won’t notice. There are several features that make the OnePlus Nord N20 5G an excellent smartphone choice for anyone looking for a quality device at an affordable price point.

You will find two SIM card slots as well as expandable storage through the microSD card slot, allowing you to keep your favorite media stored on your device at all times without fear of running out of space.

The display also provides vivid colors and crisp details no matter what you’re doing or watching. Overall, I think the software is great. It’s fast, responsive, and looks good.

If you’re looking for a new phone and don’t want to spend a lot of money, the OnePlus Nord N20 5G is a great option. It has all the features you need, plus a few extras that make it stand out from other mid-range phones.

Camera Quality

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G has three cameras on the back. The main camera is a 48 MP ultra-wide sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. There’s also a 2MP macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture and a 2 MP depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture.

The camera app is easy to use and offers a variety of features, including a night mode, portrait mode, and beauty mode. The pictures I took with the OnePlus Nord N20 5G were sharp and detailed, with accurate colors.

The low-light performance was good, thanks to the night mode. The ultrawide camera is a nice addition, but I found the pictures it took to be a bit softer than those taken with the main camera. The OnePlus Nord N20 5G also records 4K video at 30fps.

I didn’t notice any lag or shutter speed issues when shooting videos outdoors in the daytime. OnePlus also added features like Auto Night Mode which adjusts the settings automatically depending on how light the environment is.

However, in low light conditions, there was some lag when moving the phone around quickly while recording. Overall, this is a very decent camera for such a low price point!

The 16MP front camera has an f/2.4 aperture, and it takes good selfies. The beauty mode is also pretty good, blurring out any imperfections on your face.

It’s a bit slow when you first open it up, but it’s definitely usable for Instagram stories and other social media updates! Overall, I was impressed with both cameras on OnePlus’s latest offering.

Sound & Heat

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G is a great phone if you’re looking for something in the mid-range price range. It has a lot of features that are normally only found on high-end phones, and it doesn’t disappoint when it comes to sound quality.

The bass is deep and punchy, the mids are clear and detailed, and the highs are crisp and airy. The soundstage is also impressive for a phone in this price range.

You can clearly hear instruments like guitars, drums, pianos, violins, and horns across different layers with excellent detail. You can even make out sounds coming from the background during some live recordings.

If you want a sound experience that will satisfy your ears without breaking the bank, then OnePlus’s latest product should be at the top of your list.

While most of us living in cold countries won’t have to worry about it, some users in warmer parts of Europe and Asia might be put off by the hot metal frame and fingerprint sensor on top.

We didn’t experience any heat problems when using the device, but during long gaming sessions, we did notice it would get a little warm on top. Even if it isn’t uncomfortable, though, I would still prefer that OnePlus found a way to keep their devices cool even under heavy load.

You’ll also find that the glass panel at the back also heats up when you use your phone with a wireless charger (although it never became as unbearable as OnePlus’ previous phones).

Battery Life And Charging Time

When it comes to battery life, the OnePlus Nord N20 5G doesn’t disappoint. With a 4,500mAh battery, the phone can easily last a full day on a single charge.

Even with heavy use, I was able to get around 6 hours of screen-on time. And when it finally came time to recharge, the OnePlus Nord N20 5G did so quickly thanks to its fast charging support.

OnePlus also implemented a unique system in which you are alerted to vibrations whenever your device is running low on power and needs to be recharged.

Charging is just as good, if not better. OnePlus has its own fast charging technology called Warp Charge which allows you to get an additional 30% charge in 20 minutes.

In addition, OnePlus also introduced a unique system that will notify you with vibration whenever your device is running low on power and needs to be recharged. This means no more checking your smartphone every 10 minutes!

Overall Verdict – Should You Buy It?

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G is a great mid-range phone and it doesn’t disappoint. It has a lot of features that are usually only found on high-end phones, such as a fast processor, a good camera, and a large screen.

The only downside is the battery life, which isn’t as good as some other phones in this price range. However, if you’re looking for a great all-around phone, the OnePlus Nord N20 5G is a great option.

For an affordable price, you get a well-designed device with no major flaws. If you don’t want to spend more than $300 on a new phone, then the OnePlus Nord N20 5G is a solid choice.
