Chapter 3: The Reckoning
The door swung wide, and Janice strode in with total confidence, flanked by two stern-looking lawyers and a court official carrying a large leather satchel.
She didn’t raise her voice. She didn’t make a scene. She didn’t even glance at Margot at first, fixing her steady, predatory stare directly on Lucas instead.
She set a thick, heavy folder down right in the center of the table, square on top of the documents he’d wanted Margot to sign.
“You are hereby notified of an emergency request to freeze all assets, conduct a full review of every signature, and impose precautionary measures related to allegations of financial fraud.”
Lucas shot to his feet so fast his chair screeched across the polished hardwood, nearly toppling over as he scrambled to put distance between himself and the table.
