At the threshold, Gideon turned back one last time.
“You started this, Dad,” he spat.
“Twenty-seven years ago, when you sold my land.”
Wendell looked at his son, and there was no anger left in his face — only a deep and terrible sadness.
“I made one hard choice long ago that hurt your feelings,” he said.
“You made ten years of choices that starved your mother.
