Gretchen was parked outside a supermarket when Colette called.
“I need you sitting down for this.”
“What is it?”
“We looked into Maxine’s college trust.”
The fund had been opened the month their daughter was born, to guarantee her tuition someday.
“It holds far less than it should,” Colette said quietly.
“Almost three hundred thousand dollars was withdrawn over the past eighteen months.”
“Joshua would never touch our daughter’s money.” Even as she said it, Gretchen knew she no longer believed it.
“Every dollar went into the same hidden accounts tied to Cheyenne.”
Gretchen pressed a hand over her mouth.
