When No One Is Watching

Chapter 7 — The Account

The footage told her who.

The bank told her how much.

That night, after Dorian had shut himself in his office, Odette opened the joint account — the one she had fed for six years with her own salary, the account that was supposed to be their shared future.

The balance was four thousand, one hundred dollars.

She sat very still and looked at that number for a long moment, because she knew what should have been there, and it was not a number anywhere near four thousand.

Over a hundred and thirty thousand dollars was simply gone.

She followed it.

She was good with money — better than any of them had ever bothered to notice — and the trail was not even well hidden, because Dorian had never imagined anyone would look.

It led to a lease down-payment on a luxury convertible that was not hers.
