Introduction

The ZTE Axon 40 Pro is an incredible phone; if you’re looking for a new device, it should be at the top of your list. It has everything you could ask for in a cell phone: great battery life, an excellent camera with many features to play around with, and a super-fast processor.

The only major downside that we found during our testing was the size. If you have small hands, this may not be the best option for you as it can feel very large in comparison to other devices on the market.

Aside from that though, this phone really does have a lot going for it! For more details about the specifics of what makes this phone so unique, read our full review below.

Price

The ZTE Axon 40 Pro is an affordable phone with a large 6.67-inch display, long battery life, and enough power to get through the day without breaking a sweat. It costs just $499 and it’s worth the price tag.

The ZTE Axon 40 Pro is a little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. It has a long-lasting battery and a Snapdragon 870 processor that delivers an incredible level of performance. The cameras are also top-notch, and this phone will easily last you five years or more without any issues.

The ZTE Axon 40 Pro is one of my favorite phones of 2022 – it’s a great combination of power, performance, and value that you can get at a reasonable price. If you’re looking for something that has a lot of power and storage but doesn’t want to pay the extra money, the ZTE Axon 40 Pro is worth considering.

Design & Build Quality

The design of the ZTE Axon 40 Pro is a little different than other phones. For example, it has a fingerprint sensor under the display, optical. Personally, I like this placement better because it is easier to access and there are fewer fingerprints on the screen.

The build quality of this phone is also very good with an aluminum unibody construction. It feels very solid in your hand and doesn’t have any creaks or flex when you press down on it with your finger. In my opinion, the only downside of its construction is that it isn’t waterproof and cannot be used underwater.

However, many people won’t need their phone to be waterproof so this should not be too much of an issue for them. One other thing that I found interesting about the design of the ZTE Axon 40 Pro is that it does not have a headphone jack.

Instead, users can use Bluetooth headphones or buy a USB-C adapter if they want to connect wired headphones. Other than that, the design and build quality of this phone are excellent.

Display & Audio

The ZTE Axon 40 Pro comes with a 144Hz 6.67” AMOLED display that produces vibrant colors. The audio is loud and clear, which is perfect for listening to music. This phone has a lot to offer at an affordable price.

The display is incredibly sharp and vivid. It has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 and pixels per inch (PPI) of 395. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 to prevent scratches, which makes it more durable than previous generations.

The speaker has dual front-facing stereo speakers with smart A.I., meaning that the speakers can intelligently detect when you are playing music or watching videos, as well as the surrounding noise level so they know how to adjust themselves accordingly. The sound quality is great and there are plenty of options for you to choose from.

You can adjust the volume of your speakers, headphones, notifications, ringtones, alarms, and more with just a few taps on the screen. There’s also Dolby Atmos technology which allows you to enjoy 360-degree surround sound that’s perfect for watching movies or listening to music in a variety of formats.

Lastly, there’s Active Noise Cancellation so that you can block out annoying sounds like car horns, sirens, and crying babies while using your phone! If you’re looking for an inexpensive device with a quality display and loudspeakers, then this is the phone for you. You will not be disappointed with the number of features offered for such a low price.

Camera (Daylight photos)

The camera on the ZTE Axon 40 Pro is amazing and takes some of the best pictures I’ve seen in a while. The colors are vibrant, the detail is impeccable, and it handles low light well. Shots taken with this camera are good enough to print out and hang on your wall without having to worry about them looking distorted or blurry.

There’s also a 16MP front-facing shooter for selfies or video chats that does a really good job as well. It’s got an f/2.0 aperture, but there was still plenty of noise and grain when taking pictures in darker settings.

It has a pretty fast autofocus system too which means you won’t have any trouble getting the shot you want whether it be wildlife, sports, or even just snapping a quick picture of your friends when they least expect it.

All in all, if you’re someone who likes to take photos often or needs a phone with excellent photo capabilities, then the ZTE Axon 40 Pro will not disappoint.

Camera (Low light photos)

The camera is one of the best features of this phone. It has a 108MP quad rear camera with a sensor that has large 1.9-micron pixels and optical image stabilization (OIS). Low-light photos come out sharp, clear, and detailed.

The front-facing camera is 16MP and also takes great pictures. There are plenty of modes to choose from including photo, video, panorama, slow motion video, time-lapse video, and others. The problem is they’re all accessed from the same menu so it can be difficult to find what you want if you don’t know what it’s called ahead of time.

You will need to download third-party apps for other functions like collages or filters. Video recording maxes out at 1080p 30fps and does not have any high-end features such as 4K or 60 fps for slow-motion video. But overall the video quality is good.

The interface for video recording is similar to photo mode but you can use different presets like HDR, Night mode, 3D audio, Photo timer, Panorama Mode, Slow Motion Mode, and many more. Videos are crisp, with no noise or graininess even in low light settings. The colors look accurate and vibrant.

ZTE Axon 40 Pro Camera App Features & Filters

If you’re looking for a phone with excellent photography capabilities, the ZTE Axon 40 Pro is a great choice. It has an incredibly high-quality rear camera and a front-facing camera that’s good enough to make video calls.

The camera app itself is easy to use, and it even has some interesting features like filters, slow-motion video, and a panorama mode. You can also adjust the exposure in these modes or switch to auto if you prefer. There are other camera apps available in Google Play, but I haven’t found one that is better than this one.

One of the best things about the ZTE Axon 40 Pro is how fast it takes photos; there was never a moment when I wasn’t able to capture what I wanted. Plus, there’s a beauty filter option so you can get selfies just right before posting them on social media. Overall, the ZTE Axon 40 Pro offers amazing value at a low price point.

Software, Specs & Performance

The ZTE Axon 40 Pro is not only a solid phone, but it also has some really great software. The phone comes with Android 12 out of the box and has all the features that come standard on Android, such as Google Assistant.

One of the things I liked most about this phone was how well it handled games. As someone who plays a lot of mobile games, I found myself easily able to jump right into anything I downloaded without any lag or delay in performance while playing.

This is paired with 8/12GB of RAM and 256/512GB of storage space, so you won’t have to worry about running out of space any time soon. Additionally, the Axon 40 Pro runs off of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 5G (7nm) with an octa-core Adreno 650 processor which is one of the most powerful smartphones today, and the top processor for Android devices.

There is no waiting for apps to load either which makes navigation a breeze. When you combine these features with the fact that 512GB of internal storage space, there’s no question why this device is worth your money!

The camera on the ZTE Axon 40 Pro is also an incredible feature. While this might sound like overkill, it’s actually pretty neat because the person in your photos will always be crisp and clear. Another great thing about this device is that it’s available at a relatively low price point.

All in all, the ZTE Axon 40 Pro offers users an awesome mobile experience. If you’re looking for an affordable device with incredible specs and performance, then the ZTE Axon 40 Pro should definitely be at the top of your list!

Battery Life & Charging

The ZTE Axon 40 Pro has a battery life that I really like. It comes with a 5000 mAh battery life. I can go for about a day and a half before needing to charge, which is more than sufficient for my needs. You can get up to 9 hours of battery life on a single charge and it supports Quick Charge 4+ so your phone will stay charged while you’re on the go.

Plus, the charge time is pretty short, meaning that I never have to worry about having my phone die if it’s low on juice. The only drawback is that sometimes you will find yourself getting an alert or notification when you’re charging your phone, but this can be solved with some setting adjustments.

With everything considered, the battery life of this phone is one of its strongest features. I rarely ever need to charge during my work day and I can even go over to my office’s kitchen and get some work done while it charges there.

The battery life is so good that I don’t worry about carrying around a power bank or external charger to keep me going throughout the day. If you’re looking for something where battery life is important, then the ZTE Axon 40 Pro may be right up your alley!

Final Thoughts & Recommendation

The ZTE Axon 40 Pro is an incredibly solid phone that can compete with some of the best phones on the market. It has a great camera and battery life, and it’s priced affordable. If you want an affordable, reliable smartphone that doesn’t break the bank, this one is worth a look!

However, there are some shortcomings that I need to mention about this phone: for one thing, it’s not water resistant or wireless charging compatible; secondly, there’s no headphone jack (it does come with a 3.5mm adapter), which can be problematic if you have your own pair of earbuds or headphones you love using.

Overall, I would highly recommend checking out the ZTE Axon 40 Pro if you’re looking for a powerful phone without spending too much money! The build quality and features are far superior to anything else in its price range.

Still, it should meet all your needs if photos/videos, texting, and gaming are your main priorities—and who really needs more than that?! As long as you’re aware of the lack of some key features and consider what you use your phone for most often, then the ZTE Axon 40 Pro is a perfect purchase!
