Episode 4. CAUGHT OUTSIDE ROOM 407

I quickly ducked behind a housekeeping cart just as the door opened. Daniel stepped into the hallway and looked both ways. For one terrifying second, I thought he had seen me. Then the woman appeared behind him.

 

“Someone was listening,” she said. Daniel shook his head. “It couldn’t be Emily. She trusts me.” Those words hurt more than I expected. The two returned inside, leaving the door slightly open.

That’s when I noticed something lying on the carpet. A photograph. I picked it up carefully.

The image showed Daniel standing beside a black car with a strange man. He was handing the man a large envelope. My hands began shaking. On the back of the picture were four words.

FINAL PAYMENT — FRIDAY.

What was my husband paying for? As I looked closer at the man beside him, I suddenly recognized his face. And what I realized left me speechless.
