Daniel leaned back in his chair. “An appraisal would cost more than the collection.” He ordered the total value listed as one dollar.

When Evelyn’s attorney, Rebecca Lane, showed her the settlement, Rebecca expected anger. Instead, Evelyn read the clause three times. Then she signed.

Rebecca removed her glasses. “You understand he’s asking for nearly everything else.”
