Seven months after our divorce, I rushed into St. Jude’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital, still angry at my ex-wife, only to learn that she had just given birth to twin boys, and both of them were mine. Before the night was over, a nurse would place a brass key in my hand and tell me to use it before my own family arrived. And what was waiting for me beyond that was even more shocking.
“Did you take even a second to check that with Sylvia?” I asked coldly.
“I should have checked,” Marcus admitted softly, his voice full of shame.
“Yes, you absolute coward, you certainly should have,” I said with complete disgust.
The words came out with surprising calm.
Marcus said nothing at all on his end of the line.
After a long pause, he spoke in a shaky whisper.
“There’s a second, hidden entrance to the estate grounds,” Marcus revealed quietly.
“Where is that entrance?” I asked, making mental notes.
